On January 27, the Syrupmaker GHSA Riflery team had a home match against Sumter County at the CHS indoor air rifle range, defeating the Panthers by score of 1117 to 1056. All of the rifle members participated in this match.

The team captain this year is Aidan Green, who finished the day as the highest scorer with 287 points. Second was Claire Clark with 279 points, followed by Lucy Heflin with 276 points. All three are juniors at CHS.

So far, this year's team is undefeated, following up their perfect record and Area 2 Championship in 2021. Their most recent victory prior to Sumter County was against Early County on January 18, and their next match will be against Daugherty on February 1.

Last year, Commander Alex Baker spoke to the Red & Black about the team's unprecedented success since the implementation of the indoor electronic range. You can view slideshows and read that story here.

Congratulations to Commander Baker and the rifle team for their hard work to bring victories and make the Syrupmakers proud!
