Congratulations to Mr. John Scanling on being named Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District Two Music Educator of the Year.
Each of Georgia’s 14 districts selected one outstanding educator for this honor, and Mr. Scanling proudly represents District Two, which includes 22 counties across southwest Georgia. He received the award during the opening ceremony of the GMEA In-Service Conference at the Classic Center in Athens on January 29, where he is pictured with GMEA Past President, Neil Ruby.
Now in his 28th year in education, Mr. Scanling’s dedication to music and students is unmatched. His leadership and service include:
• Organizing District Honor Band for 13 years
• Hosting LGPE (Band Festival) for 11 years
• Serving as the GMEA District Music Chair for 4 years
• Hosting the District Marching Jamboree for 3 years
• Consistently earning superior ratings at LGPE
His commitment, excellence, and passion for music education continue to make a lasting impact on students and programs throughout the region.
