Principal's Corner/About The School
Welcome back to Cairo High School College and Career Academy for the 2024-2025 school year! I hope you had a great summer vacation and are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new school year. As the Principal of Cairo High School College and Career Academy, I am very proud to have the opportunity to work with the parents, community, teachers, and students of Grady County. I am excited about all theopportunities that Cairo High School College and Career Academy has to offer both academically and extracurricular.
Made up of four total academies, students will have the opportunity to be part of our: Academy of Fine Arts and Humanities, Academy of Healthcare and Human Services, Academy of Agriculture Science, Tradeand Industry, and Academy of Business and Technology. We are proud to offer more educational opportunities and career pathways to our students! At Cairo High School we seek to maintain career and interest-themed academies and foster collaborative culture, structures, and practices necessary to transform teaching and learning while capitalizing on community engagement and work-based partnerships.
Around campus you can already hear the Syrupmaker Band and see our Syrupmaker football team on the gridiron preparing for the season. Our Syrupmaid softball team is swinging bats and fielding balls in preparation for the upcoming season. It is going to be another great year!
Parents, I am dedicated to ensuring that your child receives the most outstanding educational experiences possible. I want to create an environment that welcomes all students to Cairo High School while simultaneously raising expectations. Attendance will be a major focus this school year. We will be enforcing the attendance policy. The goal of Cairo High School is to have all our students able to ENROLL, ENLIST, OR EMPLOY after graduation.
Our mission at Cairo High School College and Career Academy is to prepare all students to graduate and be fully prepared for post-secondary education and/or careers, as well as for their roles as responsible citizens.
I encourage all parents to become involved in their child’s education and to make an effort to attend our Open House, Monday August 26 th from 6:00 to 7:00pm. We will discuss important information and you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers at that time.
The Freshman Walkabout will be held Thursday, August 1st from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Ninth grade students may pick up schedules in the front lobby that day. School begins on August 2nd. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors may pick up schedules July 31st and August 1st from 1-3. You can find the student handbook on the Grady County Schools website. All information concerning all procedures at CHS will be posted online. We will have grade assemblies soon after the start of school to discuss in detail what will be expected of you as a student at Cairo High School.
I look forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. William Huff

Syrupmakers - Syrup Pitcher
4x4 BLOCK SCHEDULE
Cairo High School's class schedule consists of 4x4 block classes.
SYRUPMAKER HISTORY
Cairo (pronounced Kay-Row instead of Ki-Row like the Egyptian city) is nicknamed the "syrup city" because of the high school football team. Roddenbery's, a well known food company, was formerly located in Cairo. One of their main products was syrup. The syrup made in Cairo was cooked from sugar cane juice but it was not the corn syrup known as "Karo syrup," although the names sound the same. During a driving rainstorm in the middle of a football game many years ago, workers at the local syrup shelter brought over their rain coats labeled "Roddenbery's Syrup" on the backs of the jackets to keep the players dry. Roddenbery's was known for many other products like peanut butter and pickles and fortunately the "SYRUPMAKERS" portion of the plant was closer than the "BUTTERCHURNERS" and the "PICKLEPACKERS." Before the "fans in the stands" demanded this name change, Cairo was known as the Tigers. In 1986 ESPN named the term "Syrupmaker" the number one nickname for a high school sports team. The mascot is depicted as a syrup pitcher. The term is often shortened to "Maids" for the girls or "Makers" for the boys. The 2008 Football Syrupmakers were Class AAA State Champions after the school's second undefeated season (1990 was the other).
